VietNamNet Bridge – In a recent surprise announcement, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has said it will not send younger players to the U22 Asian Cup in 2015.
VFF made the decision after considering Vietnam’s chances at the upcoming competitions.
The qualifying round of the U22 Asian Cup 2015 will take place in July 2014 which is close to the 17th Asian Games (ASIAD) to begin in the Republic of Korea this September.
ASIAD 17 will be the primary target of Vietnam U23+3.
According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the U22 tournament will select teams for the Summer Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Without partaking in the tournament, Vietnam will have no chance to win a ticket to Rio de Janeiro in the next two years.
In the first U22 Asian Championship last year, Vietnam failed to qualify for the final round.
