Vietnam totally dominated the friendly match against underdog Maldives at Rajamagala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 17.

Left winger Quoc Phuong opened the scoring for Vietnam from a superb free-kick in the 14th minute. Two minutes later, he set up an accurate pass for attacking midfielder Dinh Bao, who broke the off-side trap and hammered the ball into the back of the net.

In a counter-attack, right winger Quach Tan received a long pass from defensive midfielder Hoang Thinh and scored another goal for Vietnam in the 18th minute.

In the second half, overseas Vietnamese player Mac Hong Quan made an impressive debut, creating a good chance for attacker Ngan Van Dai to extend Vietnam’s lead in the 47th minute.

30 minutes later, it was Quan again who grabbed the ball from the Maldivian goalkeeper’s mistake and settled the match 5-0.

Vietnam will play Thailand on June 19 and Myanmar one week later. Myanmar will be Vietnam’s opponents in the U22 Asian Cup qualifiers.
