VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam were trounced 0-5 by hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) on November 19, maintaining their losing streak at the Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers.
Vietnam’s hope of deploying the pressing tactic was jeopardized after mid-fielder Phuoc Vinh’s was red-carded on 7 minutes.
Goalie Thanh Binh blocked Al Kamali’s penalty hit, but did not succeeded in repelling the hosts’ powerful attacks.
Walid Abbas opened the scoring on 19 minutes before Ismaeil Matar extended the UAE’s lead six minutes later.
Vietnam’s fragile defence line was unable to resist UAE players’ attacks supported by home spectators. Both Mabkhout and Habib Fardan slotted in two other goals for the UAE in less than 10 minutes before half time.
After the interval, coach Nguyen Van Sy sent in strikers Quang Hai and Hai Anh, hoping to score a goal. Despite major substitution, the visiting players did not carve out any scoring chance.
They even let their hosts hammer in the fifth goal when the match had one minute to go.
The five consecutive losses in a row sent Vietnam to the bottom of Group E.
