Addressing the opening ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Nhu Canh, Vice Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations said that the course will focus on evaluating the overall capacity, especially the ability to deal with on-site situations.

It aims to enhance the comprehensive capacity of the field hospital in all aspects of deployment, operation, management and direction, he said, adding that lessons from the field hospital deployed in South Sudan will be discussed to withdraw experience.

With the engagement of 17 medical officers from the US, the US and Australia, the course is expected to strengthen the cooperation between Vietnam and the countries in UN peacekeeping operations.

James Ralph, a UK expert showed his impression at the efforts of Vietnam in preparing for the level-2 field hospital No.2.

He described the course as an evidence of collaboration among countries in implementing UN missions.

Along with training in tackling practical on-site situations, the course will concentrate on the procedure of receiving and keeping medical records as well as treatment for common diseases in the area hosting the peacekeeping mission, as well as response to massive casualties.

Colonel Nguyen Truong Giang, Vice Director of the Military Medical Academy and deputy head of the organisation board of the court said that this is a good chance for the staff as well as the whole hospital to complete their capacity to fulfil assigned missions, as well as an opportunity for experts to evaluate the staff’s competence.

Colonel Canh said that in the past two years, the level-2 field hospital No.2’s staff have been comprehensively trained, including in English language. They have worked hard during the training, he noted.

He expressed his hope that Vietnamese experts will take the chance to learn from their foreign peers.-VNA
