UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and his spouse will make an official visit to Vietnam on May 22-23 at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang.
Relations between the UN and Vietnam are growing steadily over recent years, evidenced by regular meetings and exchanges between Vietnamese and UN leaders with a view to advancing cooperation between the two sides.
Through the UN Chief’s forthcoming visit, Vietnam wants to further solidify bilateral ties, improve the effective use of funding from the UN aiming to implement the post-2015 development agenda, especially in the areas of environmental protection and adaptation to climate change.
Under the framework of the visit, Ban Ki-moon is to pay courtesy visits to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, attend an inaugural ceremony of a UN common house and meet with UN agency representatives in Vietnam.
