The Viet Nam Federation of UNESCO Association has listed a 119-year-old house called Huynh Thuy Le Ancient House in Sa Dec Town in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap as one of Viet Nam's most impressive destinations.

Huynh Thuy Le was the inspiration for the protagonist in French writer and Le's lover Marguerite Duras's novel L' Amant. His house is famous for its unique architecture blending southern Vietnamese, French, and Chinese styles.

The wooden house was built in 1895. In 1917 his father rebuilt the house like a French villa, using both eastern and western architectural elements.

Last year more than 30,000 people visited the house, with the number from EU countries increasing by 20 per cent year-on-year.

Danang targets Japanese tourists

In addition to its popular tourism markets which include China, the Republic of Korea and Russia, central Danang city will focus on attracting more Japanese tourists in 2014.

Danang is emerging as an attractive destination for Japanese tourists thanks to its healthy environment, friendly residents, and the many similarities in cultural values.

Another Japanese tourist, MomoseKatsusuke, said that during her first visit to Danang she was very impressed by its beautiful beaches, delicious dishes and peaceful life, unlike the hustle and bustle in other urban areas in Vietnam.

Japan ranked third among Danang’s tourism markets, after China and the Republic of Korea.

Director of the HIS Song Han Vietnam Tourist Company, Ha Tan Vinh, said that local travel agents are expecting a bumper year thanks to an increasing number of young Japanese tourists to the city.

He added that many travel companies are launching a wide range of new tourism services for young tourists with a focus on offering 3-day/2-night tours which depart at weekends.

In an attempt to attract more Japanese tourists, the city’s tourism sector is giving top priority to launching tourism promotion programmes as well as developing new tours.

In addition, special attention will be paid to training tourist staff who can speak the Japanese language fluently to make Danang more attractive to visitors from this country.

To realise the goals, the locality will focus on attracting foreign arrivals from Vietnam’s traditional markets, including Russia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Southeast and Northeast Asian nations.

Tourism infrastructure, especially in transport, electricity and water systems to the tourism projects, will be upgraded to serve the locality’s tourism development.

Ninh Thuan, which is blessed with untouched white sandy beaches, holds potential for developing luxurious tourism models.

The Amanoi Resort invested by Belgian businesses was inaugurated in the locality in October last year.

In 2013, the province received 1.1 million arrivals, an increase of 15.7 percent from the previous year. Of the total, the number of foreign visitors increased by 6.2 percent.
