VietNamNet Bridge – Under the impact of a tropical depression, downpours covered the central region over the last several days. Flooding triggered by torrential rains has submerged 10,000 houses in the region and killed five people.

On the afternoon of October 16, the Central Region Hydro-meteorological Forecast Station reported that in the past 24 hours, downpours of 100-230mm were recorded in provinces from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai. Flooding is rising on many rivers.

Up to 16,000 houses in Thua Thien – Hue, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Nghe An provinces are now under water, forcing thousands people to live on their house roofs.

At least two people in Quang Binh were dead in floods, including a three-year-old boy and a 45-year-old man.

3 year-old boy Duong Ngoc Quan drowned while his parents were tidying up their house to cope with the flooding without watching the boy. Ha Van Hao, 45, was swept away by the flood. Two others were seriously injured.

Because of bad weather, many flights in Hue and Da Nang were canceled. Nearly 1,000 passengers were stuck at the Da Nang airport.
