Partnership for the future environment

The majority of Unilever Vietnam's carbon emissions derives from the entire value chain: input materials, material transportation to factories, manufacturing process and product delivery to consumers. Therefore, Unilever Vietnam can only implement climate targets with the cooperation from all of its partners and suppliers throughout the value chain to develop and implement solutions to cut down greenhouse gas.

“More than 75% of the carbon footprint in Unilever Vietnam's supply chain derives from input materials and outsourced activities. Therefore, achieving the net zero carbon emissions target requires joint efforts. In fact, there are solutions that cannot be implemented by a single business or organization, but cooperation can. This is also the message that we want to convey to our partners and solution providers and call for your participation,” said Pham Manh Tri, Vice President of Supply Chain at Unilever Vietnam at the “Carbon Net Zero Value Chain” conference.

Electric forklifts are effectively applied in the operation and arrangement of products at Unilever's factories.

Unilever has achieved a number of positive results in the process of reducing carbon emissions with partners in the value chain.

The company has reduced 100% CO2 emissions and chopped down 100% carton waste in packaging transportation from Dynaplast.

Besides, Unilever Vietnam converted to 100% electric forklifts, contributing to a reduction of 1,999 tons of CO2 emissions at all of its distribution centers by the end of 2021 in comparison with 2020.

Also, the company has made great efforts in implementing and putting the circular economy model in the management of plastic waste, broken pallets, cartons, etc. into practice; turning waste into energy and fertilizer to serve manufacturing activities.

Those are the foundation for Unilever Vietnam to further promote cooperation with partners and suppliers in the value chain.

Unilever and partners sign the MoU at the conference

At the “Carbon net zero value chain” conference, Unilever Vietnam signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) with its partners, including Crown, Dynaplast, Green Yellow, Linfox, Lix and VinFast, as well as obtained the advocacy from nearly 100 other partners to accelerate the transition towards sustainability, aiming to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2039.

Pioneering actions

After the conference, Unilever Vietnam will continue to play the catalyst role and accompany its partners to jointly develop and implement solutions to reduce greenhouse gas with specific programs.

Firstly, Unilever Vietnam will help connect the business community in its value chain to facilitate sharing and expanding management, technical and financial solutions that have been successfully implemented at Unilever and several partners.

At the same time, Unilever Vietnam will become a bridge to connect and promote the circular economy model among its partners, which means the partners can find opportunities to join each other's value chains to promote both environment protection and economic efficiency.

“We look forward to the Government’s support and companionship through strategies and policy frameworks on carbon reduction so that Unilever Vietnam and like-minded enterprises can confidently invest more in a ‘carbon-free’ future. Besides, the Government's companionship will also create more motivation to raise public awareness, inspire and call for action to consumers, thereby creating an impact and positive change throughout society,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Unilever Vietnam Chairwoman.
