Verdi, one of Germany’s largest services trade unions, has called for the massive strike by security personnel at Frankfurt Airport from 2 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. In Vietnam time, the period lasts from 8 a.m. on Tuesday to 2 a.m. on Wednesday.

During the period, security checkpoints outside the transit area will not be staffed. Therefore, passengers who are supposed to begin their journey in Frankfurt will not be able to reach their flight during the entire strike period as they will not be able to pass through a security checkpoint.

Passengers on Vietnam Airlines flights on Monday, departing from the Vietnamese capital city of Hanoi for Frankfurt, will not be able to connect with other destinations on other airlines since the Frankfurt airport staff will not perform check in or handle baggage for passengers.

Another Vietnam Airlines flight, originally due to depart from Germany’s largest airport to Hanoi on Tuesday, will delay its departure time to avoid being affected by the strike.

Reuters said in a report that Verdi, which is in wage negotiations on behalf of 23,000 security workers in Germany, has called for strikes to put pressure on companies in charge of screening passengers and luggage. Wage talks are due to resume on January 23.
