"This market has everything" is the traders' motto when they talk about Hoa Binh Market which is located in Hai Ba Trung District.
The market has shops that sell from nails and batteries to larger electronic equipment. It is infamous for having many fake and low-quality products yet it has survived and thrived for over 60 years.
The market was formed and developed in 1954 as some households wanted to sell their belongings to move to the south.
The market session often starts from 8 am to 7 pm. Customers can easily find any spare parts and equipment they want there at cheap prices. There are also some old items that can hardly be found anywhere else in Hanoi.
However, customers must be wise and well-informed to wade through all the items and choose the best available at good prices.
The authorities once planned to shut down the market and open a new one on Phung Hung Street. But the plan failed because of old habits and real demands from customers. Recently, the authorities have tightened management to completely ban all products of unknown origin.
The traders must also change for the better to have more competitive, newer and better products.
