VietNamNet Bridge – Artisans have created an amazing artwork named “Vietnamese Dragon” from a piece of Chacedone agate of 5.7 tons, the largest ever found in the Central Highlands.

The piece of Chacedone agate, with two typical colors of yellow and blue, is praised as the unique agate rock in Vietnam for its weight, colors and striations.

Talented artisans in the ancient capital city of Hue have created “Vietnamese Dragon” work after nearly one year. The dragon is 1.8 tons in weight, 3.33m in length. The work is considered as the most special and unique dragon-shaped artwork in Vietnam.

Dr. Phan Truong Thi, Rector of the Institute for Jewelry and Gemstone of Vietnam, said that Chacedone agate is very hard because it was created by laval of 4 million years ago. This piece of Chacedone agate was found in the Central Highlands because this region was the home to volcanoes millions of years ago. In the world, Chacedone is not the top gemstone but in Vietnam, it is the number one.

Dr. Thi highly appreciated the talent of Hue’s artisans. “I can see the soul of dragon, the symbol of power and sacredness,” she said.

A Hanoi-based company defeated a Japanese businessman to buy “Vietnamese Dragon”. However, this firm refused to disclose the price. They only said that they want to keep this artwork staying in Thang Long (flying dragon) – Hanoi.
