The water coconut tree is a great source of materials for people in Cam Thanh commune, Hoi An city to build their houses. Recently, a group of artists used the tree to produce a kind of paper and create products from that paper.

Viet Paper Garden is a project from a group of artists who share a passion for arts. Learning about the water coconut forest in Cam Thanh, considered a little Mekong Delta in the central province of Quang Nam, the artists discovered they could make a kind of paper from the tree.

After being pounded, coconut powder is dipped in water and is ready to be designed. Artists use water power to create decorative patterns.

This space has helped artists turn plain materials into sophisticated and environment-friendly handmade products, from lamp, paper fan, wallet to conical hat that have become souvenirs for foreign tourists.

By creating paper from the coconut tree and products with that paper, the artists are contributing to preserving and popularising traditional cultural values to foreign friends.
