VietNamNet Bridge – Used television sets are used by Muong people in Tan Son district in Phu Tho province to make “altars.”

Each Muong family has two altars, an altar for the ancestors placed at prominent place in the home and an outdoor altar for the Heaven and Earth.

For a long time many Muong families in Tan Son have used the cover of old TV sets to make outdoor altars.

Normally, the altars for the Heaven and the Earth of Muong people in Phu Tho are made of plywood or built on pillars of about 1m to 1.3m high, for well-off families.

In recent years, many families in Tan Son have used cases of old TV sets to make outdoor altars.

These altars are normally placed in the garden.
