Since 2022, the HCMC University of Technology has applied integrated admission as its primary enrollment method. Accordingly, a candidate's admission score is composed of several components, including the results of the Aptitude Test organized by Vietnam National University HCMC, high school graduation exam results, and high school academic performance.
Candidates can flexibly use high school graduation exam results or Aptitude Test results for admission. This method not only simplifies enrollment but also ensures fairness, expands access for candidates, and improves the university's intake quality.
In 2026, the University of Economics HCMC (UEH) will also stop independent admission based on academic transcripts and high school graduation exam scores. Instead, there will be only two enrollment methods: direct admission according to Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) regulations and combined admission.
These two methods apply uniformly to all training programs, including Vietnamese programs, full English programs, partial English programs, ISB Talent Bachelor programs, and ASIA Co-op Bachelor programs.
Regarding admission combinations, UEH continues to emphasize the role of Mathematics with a double coefficient in most combinations; specifically, the Business English Program applies a double coefficient for English. Meanwhile, the school added new combinations for consideration, including Math - Economic and Legal Education - English; Math - Informatics - English, targeting candidates with digital capacity, technological thinking, and international integration skills.
The HCMC University of Technology in 2026 also considers combined admission based on multiple criteria as its primary method. The school plans to apply three methods: 1/direct admission according to MOET regulations and priority admission according to the school's own scheme; 2/combined admission using high school graduation exam results, high school academic records, and VNU HCMC Aptitude Test results (except for majors with talent subjects); and 3/combined admission using graduation exam results, academic transcripts, Aptitude Test results, and talent exam results organized by the school for majors like architecture, interior architecture, fashion design, and graphic design.
The University of Industry HCMC will no longer conduct separate admissions based on individual methods, such as high school transcripts or national high school graduation exam scores, but instead adopt an integrated admissions approach.
According to Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of the Training Department, besides direct admission according to MOET regulations, all other methods will be merged. Academic transcript scores, graduation exam scores, and VNU HCMC Aptitude Test scores will be converted to the same scale, with different weightages for each component.
Once this new plan is implemented, separate admission by individual methods will end. The school is also developing appropriate admission options for candidates who do not attend the VNU HCMC Aptitude Test.
The HCMC University of Industry and Trade will follow a roadmap to switch to integrated aptitude assessment. In 2026, it continues to maintain 5 admission methods, including: high school graduation exam scores; high school academic transcripts by subject combinations; VNU HCMC Aptitude Test scores; HCMC University of Education Specialized Aptitude Test scores combined with academic transcripts; and direct admission according to MOET regulations.
According to Pham Thai Son, Director of Admissions, maintaining diverse admission methods is an appropriate trend, expanding opportunities and reducing pressure by not depending entirely on a single exam. Following the set roadmap, from 2028, HUIT will fully change its enrollment method toward a combination of graduation exam scores, three-year high school academic results, and potentially international English certificates.
He believes that combined admissions methods are increasingly favored because they allow a more comprehensive assessment of applicants’ academic performance over three years of high school, combined with graduation exam results and international certificates, especially English.
He believes that as universities build more methodical and professional training programs, selecting the right learners is key. Learners need not only good academic standing but also dynamism, creativity, and the ability to learn and work effectively to meet training requirements and shorten time to graduation.
Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of the Training Division at the University of Industry at HCMC, said that combined admissions are increasingly chosen by higher education institutions because they better ensure fairness for applicants.
Universities are now required to clearly disclose regulations on score differentials between subject combinations (if any) as well as methods for converting admission scores across different admissions methods, in line with admissions regulations.
