The Vincom Centre for Contemporary Art (VCCA) in Hà Nội will host the two solo exhibitions tomorrow, Bicycles by Vietnamese-born French artist Trần Thu Vân, and Ellipses by Hà Mạnh Thắng, a prominent Vietnamese artist.

Bicycles is Vân’s first solo installation exhibition in Việt Nam. All of her work in this exhibition is brand new. Inspired by a song from the artist’s childhood, the exhibition contains self-identification and history of the artist, as well as the desire to create a fictional world.

Ellipses presents new work from Thắng, inspired by poems from the Middle Age Chinese poets Li Bai and Du Fu. His work has the features of Western modern art, yet still holds an Asian spirit.

Both exhibitions will run until February. VCCA is located on level B1, Block R3, Vincom Mega Mall Royal City, 72A Nguyễn Trãi Road, Thanh Xuân District.

The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents (TPD) will open its ‘Family Movie Month” with a screening of the Little Miss Sunshine tomorrow night (Friday).

An American comedy-drama road trip film, the 2006 movie is also the directorial debut of the husband-wife team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

Father Richard (Greg Kinnear) is desperately trying to sell his motivational success program with no success. Meanwhile, "pro-honesty" mom Sheryl (Toni Collette) lends support to her eccentric family, including her depressed brother (Steve Carell), fresh out of the hospital after being jilted by his lover.

Then there are the younger Hoovers – the seven-year-old, would-be beauty queen Olive (Abigail Breslin) and Dwayne (Paul Dano), a Nietzsche-reading teen who has taken a vow of silence. Topping off the family is the foul-mouthed grandfather (Alan Arkin), whose outrageous behaviour recently got him evicted from his retirement home.

When Olive is invited to compete in the "Little Miss Sunshine" pageant in far-off California, the family piles into their rusted-out VW bus to rally behind her – with riotously funny results.

Little Miss Sunshine was an overwhelming box office success, earning US$100.5 million. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won two – Best Original Screenplay for Michael Arndt and Best Supporting Actor for Alan Arkin.

The film will be presented in its original English language with Vietnamese subtitles. The screening will start at 7.30pm. Donation (at the door): VNĐ20,000/person. TPD is at 51 Trần Hưng Đạo Street (4th floor). Tel: 024 3936 6559.
