Fokine reshaped the work for two years prior to its 1909 staging as Les Sylphides for Serge Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe at the Chatelet Theater in Paris by legendary ballerina Pavlova. The work continued to evolve, but retained its essence as a one-act ballet evoking the Romantic Spirit of the sylph in an abstract work. Les Sylphides is often confused with La Sylphide, another ballet of similar name but however the two ballets are unrelated.

Project CityScapes Blog of Goethe Institute

Hanoi, HCMC and ten other cities in South-East Asia, Oceania and Europe are linked in the Cityscapes blog project of the Goethe Institute. In texts, images and short films, they offer interesting insights into the life of these cities and the daily lives of their inhabitants.

One of the bloggers describes the Vietnamese capital as: “a young city with many people coming from everywhere. They are all here to pursue happiness and a better life. And as a result of the civilization, many areas that were rice fields around 10 years ago are now full of people and always blocked in the traffic. And though these people have different destinies, they all seem very busy, hurried and active in this city.”

As part of the Cityscapes blog project, each three-member city team creates different contributions to monthly changing topics. Immerse yourself with the Berlin Bloggers in the local party scene, learn more about the consumer habits in Auckland or the meaning of good food in Jakarta.

In March, the bloggers addressed the subject of “Sex in my City – how prudish are we?” While in Vietnam there is still a conflict between the generations on the topic, and Sydney also deals with sex quite conservatively, in Bangkok singles are very modern and fall in love on the web.

Cityscapes shows what cities and their residents have in common and what separates them. At the end of each month, the Goethe-Institut report summaries the latest blog entries.
