The two patients had their operations on June 20 at Huế Central Hospital following the quick delivery of kidneys donated by a 58-year-old male patient from Phú Thọ, who had passed away due to a traffic accident. The donated kidneys arrived at Phú Bài airport and were escorted by traffic police to the hospital at 10:22 pm on June 20.

The teams at Huế Central Hospital simultaneously performed kidney transplants for two patients with highly compatible profiles. After more than three hours of surgery, the patients were transferred to the organ transplant recovery room. Their hemodynamic parameters were stable post-transplant, biochemical indices gradually improved and the transplanted kidney functioned well.

According to Võ Đại Quyền, Deputy Head of the Cardiovascular Anaesthesia and Resuscitation Department at Huế Central Hospital, such kidney transplant cases at the facility have been successful in terms of both transportation and transplant techniques, as this is a routine procedure at the hospital.

This success is attributed not only to the noble gesture of the kidney donor and the medical staff at Phú Thọ General Hospital and Huế Central Hospital, but also to the dedicated efforts of the traffic police escort team.

Just before the kidney arrived by plane in Thừa Thiên-Huế, the officers of Traffic Police Team No. 2, Thừa Thiên-Huế Provincial Traffic Police Department, sprang into action.

They led the way to the emergency room, making sure the kidney transport vehicle reached Huế Central Hospital within 15 minutes, just in time for the transplant. The command dispatched Lieutenant Colonel Lê Văn Nghĩ, Deputy Team Leader, along with Captain Nguyễn Hương Nhật, Lieutenant Colonel Lê Khắc Trung, and Captain Nguyễn Đăng Hoàng. The team coordinated to receive the organ from Phú Bài airport and safely transported it to the transplant site for the two awaiting patients.

An officer from Traffic Police Team No. 2 shared that beyond completing their task, the escort team performed their duties with heartfelt dedication and a sense of mission.

"The journey from Phú Bài airport to the Cardiovascular Centre at Huế Central Hospital took 15 minutes. After completing the mission and returning to the unit, we all hoped for the success of the kidney transplants. Hearing that the patients were gradually recovering made us overjoyed," the officer said. VNS
