At a press conference on the trip in Hanoi on May 7, Salmon, who headed the delegation from the US House of Representatives, expressed his support for the signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

Of the 12 countries negotiating the TPP, Vietnam could benefit more from the agreement, he added.

Meanwhile, Salmon’s accompanying congressman Alan Lowenthal told reporters that he was optimistic about the future relationship between Vietnam and the United States.

He said that he would find out more about Vietnam to make practical contributions to developing the US-Vietnam comprehensive partnership, bringing benefits to both people.

He also expressed his impression at Vietnam’s reform efforts and determination to achieve a high economic growth rate.

During their trip, the US congressmen met National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan and had working sessions with relevant Vietnamese agencies.
