U.S and German leaders on Tuesday threatened additional sanctions against Iran in case of its continued failure to meet its international obligations.

U.S. President Barack Obama said that he and German Chancellor Angela Merkel both agreed in their talks that Iran's continuing nuclear program and its refusal to engage in any meaningful talks with the international community remain "a very serious concern."


"So we agreed that if the International Atomic Energy Agency this week determines again that Iran is continuing to ignore its international obligations, then we will have no choice but to consider additional steps, including potentially additional sanctions, to intensify the pressure on the Iranian regime," Obama said at a joint press conference with Merkel after their talks at the White House.


Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced on Tuesday in Tehran that Iran will never stop uranium enrichment.

In January, Iran held talks with the five permanent members of UN Security Council plus Germany in Istanbul, Turkey, but failed to reach any agreement on Iran's nuclear program.
