US media behemoth News Corp announced yesterday that it had bought mobile and internet rights for the English football league in Japan, Indonesia, and Viet Nam for three years.
It has also acquired mobile and internet rights in those territories for the Bundesliga (Germany), Ligue 1 (France), Serie A (Italy), FA Cup (England), Championship (England), Capital One Cup (England), Brazilian Championship, and Major League Soccer (the US).
"We will, exclusively, have every goal from every game in the Premier League and action from the German, French, and Italian leagues for audiences in Indonesia, Viet Nam, and Japan," Robert Thomson, chief executive of News Corp, said. "Digital delivery of European football in Asia is the sweetest of sweet spots."
While the EPL deal is for until 2015-16, the company has a two-year agreement for the others.
