The orchestra began playing music at the gate of the Thanh Tam School for Disabled Children in the warm welcome of nuns and hundreds of disabled kids. Some soldiers led disabled kids by to dance by their hands. Kids were very curious to see strange musical instruments.

The orchestra named Orient Express, with 12 members, has been operating for 30 years. The band’s members are changed every two years.

“This is the first time we perform in Vietnam and it is more special when we perform at a school for disabled children,” said Drew Williams, the band’s leader.

The orchestra performed on the Pham Van Dong Square in Da Nang’s centre in the evening of July 17.

Three US navy ships including: USS Chung-Hoon, USS Preble and USNS Safeguard landed at Da Nang’s Tien Sa Part at noon of July 15, starting the seven-day friendly visit on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations.

The two sides will hold exchanges involving navigation and damage control along with dive and salvage training. They will also participate in some community projects in Da Nang city.
