VietNamNet Bridge – At noon on May 1, the USNS Amelia Earhart vessel of the Pacific Fleet of the U.S. Navy anchored at the Cam Ranh Bay in Khanh Hoa province for periodical repair.

Under a contract with the Vietnam’s partner - Vinashin Cam Ranh - the maintenance will last about two weeks.
Amelia Earhart is a transport ship of the Pacific Fleet, which is specialized in transporting dry cargo and fuel. The vessel construction was completed on 30/5/2007 and it became a member of the U.S. Navy on 6/4/2008.
The ship is 210 m long, 32.3 m wide, 40,298 tons in tonnage, has an average speed of 14 nautical miles per hour, with 49 officers and military staff, plus 123 contract workers.
This is the seventh time a US logistic ship of the US Navy entering the Cam Ranh and Van Phong bays of Khanh Hoa province, in central Vietnam, for repairs and maintenance, since the maiden voyage of the Richard E. Byrd vessel in February 2010.
