Secretary Blinken conveyed President Joe Biden’s condolences to Madam Ngo Thi Man and the family on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. He emphasized that the US leaders, including President Biden, regarded General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as a friend and a trusted partner.

Under the vision and leadership of General Secretary Trong, the friendship and relationship between the two countries have flourished, culminating in the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Secretary Blinken highlighted that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a model for reconciliation between the two nations and played a significant role in building a bridge connecting the people of both countries.

He affirmed that President Biden, the U.S. government, and the American people would always remember and honor the legacy of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, cherishing the fond memories and significant impact he had on the bilateral relations.

On behalf of the family, Madam Ngo Thi Man expressed her deep appreciation for the heartfelt sentiments from President Biden, Secretary Blinken, and the American delegation. She shared that during his lifetime, General Secretary Trong was dedicated to fostering the Vietnam-U.S. relationship and, together with President Biden, issued a Joint Statement upgrading the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2023.

She expressed her belief that both sides would continue to effectively implement the September 2023 Joint Statement to further enhance the bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both nations.

On this occasion, Madam Ngo Thi Man extended her sincere thanks and best wishes for health to President Biden, his wife, and family.

Earlier, on July 25, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper visited and signed the condolence book, paying tribute to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
