The remains of US servicemen who died during the Vietnam War were repatriated to the US at a ceremony at the Danang International Airport on April 9.
Present at the event were representatives from the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), US MIA Office and US Defense Attache Office in Hanoi.
A Vietnamese representative handed over to the US one box of the remains which were recovered during the 106th Joint Field Activities from February to April, 2012.
Those remains had been jointly reviewed and concluded by Vietnam and US forensic specialists that they might be associated with the US servicemen missing during the war and recommended to bring to Hawaii, United States, for further review.
The seeking of the remains of US servicemen missing during the Vietnam War is humanitarian cooperation between the Vietnamese and US Governments. This is the 122nd repatriation of missing American servicemen’s remains since 1973.
Addressing at the ceremony, the US Government representative expressed deep gratitude and high appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policy, goodwill and the increasingly efficient cooperation of the Vietnam Government and people.
