Dr. Phan Do Phuc, a conductor born in 1990 and a graduate of prestigious music programs in the United States, will lead the Vietnam Youth Orchestra (VYO) and a multinational ensemble in the "Hanoi Concert: Winter Symphony."

The event, organized by Hanoi Radio and Television, is scheduled to take place on December 13 at the Hanoi Opera House. It will feature performances by the Vietnam Youth Orchestra and the Binh Minh Choir, all conducted by Dr. Phan Do Phuc.

Born in 1990, Dr. Phan Do Phuc has achieved significant recognition worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral cellist. He has served as principal cellist for prominent orchestras, including the Napa Valley Festival Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, New York Classical Players Orchestra, and Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra.

In 2020, he graduated with a Doctorate in Cello Performance from Stony Brook University, New York, under the mentorship of renowned professor Colin Carr. Upon returning to Vietnam, Dr. Phuc held positions as principal cellist for the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) and the Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO).

Since 2022, Dr. Phuc has been the inaugural conductor of the Vietnam Youth Orchestra. Recently, he also became Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Youth Music Institute (VYMI), dedicated to promoting the beauty of classical music through diverse performance and educational projects.

The "Hanoi Concert: Winter Symphony" promises an enriching program featuring iconic works such as Winter from Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms, and Sleigh Ride.

In addition to these classical masterpieces, the concert will present Vietnamese folk music reimagined for the symphony orchestra. Highlights include Xe chi luon kim - one of Vietnam’s most beloved folk tunes - arranged by Tran Manh Hung, and Hoa thom buom luon, blending warm and nostalgic sounds with poignant orchestration.

The evening’s theme of winter embraces notions of warmth and homecoming, including a special suite of family-themed songs by celebrated Vietnamese composers Trinh Cong Son and Pham Trong Cau. These pieces are expected to leave a profound emotional impact on the audience.

The Hanoi Concert: Winter Symphony will be broadcast live on HTV1, FM96, the Hanoi On app, and other digital platforms operated by Hanoi Radio and Television.
