US Dollar rates soared at domestic commercial banks on May 6, touching the ceiling price set by the State Bank of Vietnam.

In the morning, Techcombank added VND10 on the buying side and and VND3 on the selling side, listing each dollar at VND21,610 and VND21,673, respectively.

The same exchange rates were also applied in the Eximbank and Sacombank on the day.

The Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) alone remained the rates it set on May 5 with each dollar (buy-sell) listed at VND21,610 and VND21,670, respectively.

The bank raised the dollar buying and selling rates by VND20 on May 4 from the previous rates of VND21,570 and VND21,630 respectively, which had been applied since the beginning of this month.

At the Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) and the Bank for the Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), each dollar was bought at VND21,610 and sold at VND21,670 on May 5.

The State Bank of Vietnam has yet to make statement on the exchange rate adjustment.
