VietNamNet Bridge – An Giang Plant Protection 2 team produced a strong performance to help Ho Huynh Van An seize the yellow jersey from Nguyen Truong Tai of Domesco Dong Thap in the fourth stage of the Mekong Delta Cycling Tour-An Giang Plant Protection Cup yesterday, Aug 17.

An stole the yellow jersey with an overall time of 10:39.17 after four stages. Truong Nguyen Thanh Nhan of Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 and Tai are in second and third, respectively.

An also performed outstandingly in the sprint competition yesterday, earning 54 points in the race for the green jersey, followed by veteran Le Van Duan from Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 and Dong Thap's Tai.

The 185km stage from southernmost Ca Mau city to Hau Giang Province's Vi Thanh town culminated in a dramatic sprint finish that was won by Duan.

His completed stage time was 04:16.01 with a top speed of 43.4kmph.

Youngster Nguyen Thanh Tam of An Giang Plant Protection 1 and Sai Gon Plant Protection 1's Nhan finished second and third, respectively.

In the team race, Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 took the lead after four stages with a combined time of 31:59.26, followed by An Giang Plant Protection 1 and Sai Gon Plant Protection 2.

Today, cyclists will attempt to conquer the fifth 150km stage from Vi Thanh town to Can Tho City.

This year's event, which is being held jointly by the Viet Nam Sports Bicycle and Motorbike Association and the Dong Thap provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, marks the 66th anniversary of the August Revolution and the 123rd birthday of late President Ton Duc Thang.

The race started in Long Xuyen, the hometown of President Thang, and will conclude in Cao Lanh city in Dong Thap Province on Saturday.

The team and individual event winners of the tournament will receive a total of US$12,000 in prize money.
