Provincial governor Anukun Tangkananukulchai welcomed Doan’s visit which he said will help strengthen cooperative relations between the two countries.

Briefing his guest on the province’s socio-economic development, the governor said with a population of 700,000, Nakhon Phanom has enormous potential for cultural, tourism and education development.

The province has famous tourist destinations, including the President Ho Chi Minh relic where the late Vietnamese president lived in 1928-1929.

The Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Village has been refurbished to become a tourist spot, receiving crowds of visitors.

The governor said many Vietnamese nationals in the province have been granted full Thai citizenship and they are making an important contribution to local development.

For her part, Doan praised the fruitful cooperation between Nakhon Phanom and central Vietnamese provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh. She thanked the local administration for building the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Village which houses the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial.

The construction not only meets the aspirations of overseas Vietnamese in Thailand but also helps Thai and foreign tourists to know more about President Ho who laid a firm foundation for building the Vietnam-Thailand friendship, she said.

Meeting with overseas Vietnamese in the province, Doan acknowledged their efforts to integrate into the local community while keeping their hearts and minds toward the homeland.

Approximately 100,000 Vietnamese nationals are residing in Thailand, mostly in the northeast region, including Nakhon Phanom.
