VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam supports the National Transitional Council's (NTC) bid to take over Libya's seat in the UN General Assembly and respects all decisions made by the Libyan people, a Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

"The Vietnamese mission to the United Nations on September 14 handed over a diplomatic note supporting the NTC's bid to take over Libya's seat in the UN General Assembly," Luong Thanh Nghi, Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

"Viet Nam respects all decisions made by the Libyan people and hopes the power handover in Libya will take place smoothly, ensuring the country's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

"We hope that the NTC and political forces in Libya will take effective measures to restore peace and stability soon and promptly conduct general elections to elect an administration of national concord and reconciliation, representing the will and interests of the entire Libyan people.

"Viet Nam wishes to co-operate with the new administration to promote friendship between the two countries and is willing to participate in the reconstruction process in Libya within its capacity," he said.
