Viet Nam played very confidently, with Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, Ha Ngoc Diem and Bui Thi Nga all shining.

The Vietnamese already looked poised to sweep the Kazakhs after taking the first two frames until they sputtered midway through the match as Yekaterina Zhdanova and Alessya Safronova pushed forward and propelled the game to a deciding fifth set.

In the decider, however, Viet Nam recovered and never looked back to the satisfaction of their head coach Hidehiro Irisawa, who was cheering the team from the sidelines, from start to finish.

Viet Nam will face the winners of the match between the Philippines and Chinese Taipei in the fifth-seventh playoff today.

Earlier, in the qualifying round, Viet Nam lost to Kazakhstan 25-21, 23-25, 22-25, 20-25.
