"Viet Nam is deeply concerned about the rising violence in Egypt which causes the loss of civilian lives," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi at a regular press conference in the capital.

"We called on relevant sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation of violence and settle differences via peaceful dialogue so that Egypt will soon become stable and develop further," he said, responding queries about Viet Nam's stance on the current situation in Egypt.

Earlier, Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Dao Thanh Chung told the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) that the Foreign Ministry has directed the embassy to be prepared for evacuations if necessary.

At present, 79 Vietnamese citizens are working and studying in Egypt, including 24 public servants and their accompanying families.

Nghi also said Viet Nam hoped that the US International Trade Commission would have a fairer decision in regard to the anti-subsidy duty on frozen shrimp imported from Viet Nam in line with Viet Nam's productive commerce and trade relations with the US.
