Meanwhile, Singapore will meet North Korea in their opening game of the tournament.

Coach Henrique Calisto and his squad, who play India in a friendly today, Oct 8, will be making their final preparations to defend the ASEAN Football Championship AFF-Suzuki Cup in Viet Nam and Indonesia on December 1-29.

The VFF Cup will also be good preparation for Singapore, who have been drawn in Group B with Viet Nam and Myanmar at the AFF-Suzuki Cup.

According to Viet Nam Football Federation's general secretary Tran Quoc Tuan, the Lion football federation will send their best squad to the VFF Cup next month.

"Singapore are also eager to hone their skills at the VFF Cup before competing at the ASEAN Football Championship. They always prove tough rivals for Viet Nam at the regions biggest football event," Tuan said on Oct 7.

The Viet Nam Football Federation also signed a three-year sponsorship contract with Sonha Group on Oct 7.

The tournament winners will walk away with US$20,000, while the two runners-up will get a cash-prize of $10,000 and $5,000.

The sponsor will also award $1,000 to the first scorer.

The VFF Cup, which used to be known as the Agribank Cup, has been held annually since 2004.

Viet Nam won the title in 2005 and 2009 and were runners-up in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
