VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam won two gold medals at the Southeast Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships which wrapped up yesterday, June 26, at Hai Duong's 2,000-seat gymnasium.
The gold medals went to Le Tien Dat and Viet Linh in the girl's and boy's singles U-18 category.
In the girl's side, Linh outstandingly defeated Thai Rattanatorn 4-0, while Dat beat Singapore's Tay Kiat 4-1.
With two golds, one silver and seven bronzes, Viet Nam rank third after five days of competition. Singapore took the lead with six golds, two silvers and six bronzes, followed by Thailand with three golds, seven silvers and three bronzes.
It's the first time the country has hosted a regional junior tournament. More than 100 players attended, from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam.
Competitors competed in U-18 and U-15 age groups for 11 medal sets in the boys' and girls' singles, doubles, mixed doubles and team events.
In the tournament last year, Viet Nam bagged two gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
