VietNamNet Bridge – The national U-19 team demolished Brunei 7-0 in a group B opener of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Championship in Myanmar yesterday, Sep 8.

Striker Nguyen Thanh Hien opened scoring 15 minutes into the game before Nguyen Xuan Nam doubled in the 17th and 23rd minute.

Hien then scored his second goal to help Viet Nam take the first half 4-0 lead.

Twenty-six minutes after the break, Hien scored his third goal in the match, while his teammates Phan Dinh Thang and Nguyen Tuan Vu netted the ball in the 74th and 83rd minute, respectively.

Brunei played with 10 men from 78th minute when a defender was sent off after booking a red card.

In an earlier match, Indonesia drew with Laos 3-3.

Viet Nam meet the hosts Myanmar in the second match today, while Laos play Brunei at Yangon's Youth Training Centre.

Group B includes Laos, Indonesia, Brunei and the hosts Myanmar.

Thailand are in group A with Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia and Cambodia.

The top two teams from each group will secure semi-final berths, and the championship winners will qualify for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Championship.
At the championship in 2009, Viet Nam finished third.
