For the first time, Vietnam has a master plan for information and communications infrastructure, which strives for new-generation infrastructure, with synchronized components among regions and localities. This will create new development for the country, and facilitate the development of digital government, digital economy, and digital society.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam said that effective information and communications infrastructure planning in 2021-2030 will create new driving forces for more sustainable and rapid socio-economic development.

Tran Minh Tan, deputy head of the National Institute of Information and Communications Strategy (NIICS), said information and communications infrastructure includes links among the postal network, IT industry infrastructure, national digital transformation platforms and information security assurance systems and cybersecurity.

Thr development of digital space with traditional physical space creates favorable conditions for innovation.

Tan said that such planning concretizes the Party and State’s guidelines and policies related to information and communications development.

The major goal of the planning is defining orientation, targets and solutions to the development of technical infrastructure in five categories – postal services, digital infrastructure, IT industry infrastructure, platforms for national digital transformation, and information security and cybersecurity assurance systems.

It is expected that by 2025, Vietnam will be among 50 leading countries in the information and communications technology development index (IDI) set by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Vietnam hopes it will be No1 in ASEAN, and among the top 10 Asian and the top 20 or top 30 countries globally in the number of national domain names.

It also strives for a position among the top 20 countries in the world in converting the internet into IPv6.

Regarding information security, Vietnam wants to move from 25th to 30th in the ITU’s Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI).
