The Vietnam national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, on January 12th announced its airfare ceiling for domestic routes applying to ticket purchases from January 1st, citing declining fuel costs as a major influence.

The decision follows the direction No 31/CT-BGTVT dated December 25th, 2014 of the Ministry of Transport, and the instruction No 5436/CHK-TC dated December 29th, 2014 of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), relating to the implementation of decision No 3282/QĐ-BTC of the Ministry of Finance on unifying airfare ceiling levels for under 500 kilometers domestic routes, thus actively contributing to socio-economic development in mountainous areas, border and islands regions.

Accordingly, the ceiling economy-class airfare for the Hanoi - Na San route, the Ho Chi Minh city - Can Tho/Ca Mau/Con Dao route, the Vung Tau/Can Tho - Con Dao route, and the Da Nang - Pleiku/Quy Nhon/Dong Hoi (operating by only one carrier) route, is VND1,600,000/one way. While for other routes under 500 kilometers is VND1,700,000/one way.

These airfares are not including taxes, surcharges and certain conditions.

From January 15th, the carrier will add some promotional policies for passengers who are permanent residents or soldiers, officers who are working in Con Dao, Ca Mau and Pleiku, in which the Ho Chi Minh city - Con Dao route (increase from 25% to 30%), the Ho Chi Minh city - Ca Mau route (a 15% decree), and the Da Nang - Pleiku route (a 15% decrease).

It is really good news as days just before Tet, flights from Ho Chi Minh city to Hanoi are full of passengers, while the flights from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city have a low occupancy rate.
