On August 5, Vietnam Airlines officially began trialing in-flight internet connectivity, offering passengers a modern and connected “digital sky” experience while traveling.

On select international routes, the airline now offers three internet packages tailored to passenger needs. A $5 messaging package provides unlimited messaging throughout the flight, a $10 package offers web browsing for one hour, and a $20 package allows unlimited browsing for the entire journey.

Passengers can access the service via onboard Wi-Fi from their personal devices and conveniently purchase a package mid-flight.

For domestic flights, the payment system is still being finalized. Vietnam Airlines plans to offer the service once the platform is fully standardized for the Vietnamese market.

In the initial trial phase, Vietnam Airlines will provide free unlimited web browsing for business class passengers, and 15 minutes of complimentary messaging on platforms like Zalo, Viber, and WhatsApp for all passengers on both international and domestic flights.

From now until the end of December 2025, this service will be available on Airbus A350 aircraft equipped with satellite-based internet systems. The airline will continue expanding the service to other aircraft models and collaborating with partners to offer more flexible payment methods and access packages, accommodating various customer segments.

Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy CEO of Vietnam Airlines, emphasized that this initiative is part of the airline’s broader strategy to implement Resolution 57 of the Politburo, which promotes science, technology, and innovation.

The onboard internet infrastructure is provided in collaboration with VNPT and connects to the Viasat satellite system (USA), ensuring passengers have access to a stable and secure connection during their flights.

This feature has already been adopted by several high-end international airlines and is increasingly considered a standard requirement for carriers aiming to achieve 5-star ratings from global evaluators and discerning passengers alike.
