The incident happened at around 14.50pm on May 6 on the aircraft numbered 524, which had left the Tan Son Nhat Airport to Hanoi after around 30 minutes of flight. The General Director of Vietnam Airlines has confirmed that it is not an aircraft fire but a common technical problem.

After the flight attendants informed passengers of the incident, there was a pandemonium on the plane. Immediately the aircraft was ordered to go back to Tan Son Nhat airport. During this time many passengers panicked, fearing that the aircraft caught fire.

Hundreds of passengers were guided by flight attendants to get out safely. Rescuers and technical employees at Tan Son Nhat airport quickly approached the aircraft to handle the incident.

The same day, in a phone call with VietNamNet, Pham Ngoc Minh - Vietnam Airlines CEO confirmed: "There was absolutely no fire involving the aircraft number 524.”

According to Minh, 30 minutes after the aircraft left Tan Son Nhat airport, the technical error flash light flared at the take-off - landing device (unqualified for flying). Therefore, the aircraft returned to Tan Son Nhat airport for troubleshooting and it is normal.

"After landing, the error was fixed by technicians. We arranged another aircraft to take the passengers to Hanoi," Minh told VietNamNet.
