According to Notice No. 9441/TB-BNV issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 2026 National Day holiday schedule applies to officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers at administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, and socio-political organizations.

Under the schedule, public employees are entitled to the two statutory National Day holidays on September 1 and September 2. To create an uninterrupted holiday period, the working day on Monday, August 31, will be swapped with Saturday, August 22.

As a result, officials, civil servants, and public employees will enjoy a continuous five-day break from Saturday, August 29, through Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

During the holiday, government agencies and public institutions are required to arrange duty staff, maintain uninterrupted public services, and assign personnel to respond promptly to any emergencies or unexpected situations.

For employees in the private sector, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the 2026 National Day holiday will include September 2 and one adjacent day selected by employers, either September 1 or September 3. Employers must notify employees of the holiday schedule at least 30 days before it takes effect.

The ministry also encourages employers to adopt a holiday schedule similar to that of the public sector and, where possible, provide arrangements that are even more favorable to employees. If a weekly rest day coincides with an official public holiday under Clause 1, Article 112 of Vietnam's Labor Code, employers must provide a compensatory day off on the next working day.

The ministry has further requested ministries, sectors, and local authorities to develop appropriate plans and encouraged agencies, businesses, organizations, and individuals to proactively organize production, business, and socio-economic activities before, during, and after the holiday period. Authorities are also expected to ensure balanced supplies of goods and services, maintain stable prices and market conditions, support economic growth, and promote thrift while preventing waste.

Beginning in 2026, officials, public employees, and workers in Vietnam will also receive an additional public holiday on Vietnam Culture Day (November 24), increasing the total number of annual public holidays to 12 days.
