Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh is leading a delegation to attend the 14th Shangri-la Dialogue in Singapore from May 29-31.

This year’s event gathers nearly 20 senior defence officers from Asian-Pacific countries, who plan to discuss measures to address differences in order to ensure security and stability in the region.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will deliver an introductory speech at the opening session on the evening of May 29.

Political instability in Asia, risks of the self-claimed Islamic State, and trans-national challenges in natural disasters and cyber crime threats are among discussion topics.

China’s construction and expansion of reef islands in the East Sea is also expected to top the agenda.

Held annually by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the Shangri-la Dialogue is significant to security in the Asian-Pacific region, offering a good chance for regional countries to hold dialogues towards ensuring security and stability in the region.
