From May 15 to June 14, 2024, Vietnam experienced 1,894 traffic accidents, resulting in 849 fatalities and 1,373 injuries. Compared to the same period in 2023, this represents an increase of 140 cases (7.98%), a decrease of 92 deaths, and a rise in injuries (16.45%). Most of these accidents occurred on roads (1,877 cases), followed by railway accidents (12 cases) and waterway accidents (5 cases).

In the first half of the year, there were 12,321 traffic accidents nationwide, claiming 5,255 lives and injuring 9,599 people. This marks an increase of 1,842 cases (17.58%), a decrease of 702 deaths, and an increase of 2,707 injuries compared to the same period last year.

Specifically, there were 12,225 road traffic accidents, 66 railway accidents, 22 waterway accidents, and 3 maritime accidents.

In June 2024 alone, the CAAV received 25 mandatory safety reports, of which 10 were level D incidents, marking an increase of 4 incidents compared to the same period in 2023. Out of these, 9 incidents were due to technical failures, and 1 was due to ground staff errors.

Overall, in the first six months of 2024, the CAAV reported 101 mandatory safety reports, including 42 level D incidents, an increase of 3 incidents (7.7%) compared to the same period in 2023. These incidents were categorized as follows:

- Technical failures: 26 incidents

- Bird strikes: 2 incidents

- Human errors: 13 incidents (1 due to crew and weather factors, 7 due to crew errors, 3 due to technical staff, 2 due to ground staff)

- Turbulence: 1 incident caused by an aircraft flying into an area of turbulence created by another aircraft

According to regulations, incidents in the aviation sector are classified into five levels:

- Accident (Level A): Severe incidents resulting in significant damage or injury.

- Serious incident (Level B): Incidents that pose a substantial risk to safety.

- High safety-threatening incident (Level C): Incidents that could lead to a serious incident or accident.

- Incident with a risk of safety-threatening incident (Level D): Incidents that have a potential risk of escalating.

- Incident (Level E): Minor incidents with limited safety impact.
