Vietnam, Azerbaijan aim for sport cooperation

Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov on July 2 hosted a reception for visiting Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh during which they discussed bilateral cooperation in the field.

Azad Rahimov informed his guest of Azerbaijan’s preparations for the 2015 European Games in Baku, noting that his country is capable of hosting large-scale sporting events.

He said he hopes that Vietnamese athletes will join training courses and international sport tourneys in Azerbaijan.

Hailing Azerbaijan’s rapid development in the field, Minister Anh said Vietnam will benefit from learning experience from the southeastern European nation.

Minh slips further in badminton world ranking

Nguyen Tien Minh had dropped to No 15 in the latest rankings of the Badminton World Federation.

It is the second month in a row that the Vietnamese badminton ace has slipped. In the previous month, he had slid four places to No 14.

Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia is the world's top ranked player, followed by Chen Long of China and Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark.

Hai Duong hosts youth archery contest

The National Youth Archery Championships will begin on July 15 in the northern province of Hai Duong.

Organisers expect 14 teams to take part in the contest, which will present medals for five different distances in both men's and women's categories.

The championships will close on July 21.
