The Viet Nam Food Safety Administration (FSA) yesterday banned and recalled certain Taiwanese canned foods that reportedly contain recycled waste oil.

The list of canned products that allegedly contain dirty oil include 240 boxes of canned pickled cucumber with pork and 240 boxes of canned minced meat with chili.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office informed the FSA about the Cuu Huong Commerce and Service Company Ltd that purchased canned products from Wei-Chuan Food, a Taiwanese company that was reportedly involved in the "gutter oil" scandal.

The list of canned products that allegedly contain dirty oil include 240 boxes of canned pickled cucumber with pork and 240 boxes of canned minced meat with chili.

The FSA has requested the Cuu Huong Company to stop the circulation of these products immediately, recall the products and to report to the FSA before September 20.

According to the latest update, Cuu Huong Company is reportedly not co-operating with the authorities and is refusing to allow Ho Chi Minh City's FSA to examine their stock.

The local police have been sent to patrol the area to ensure that the company does not remove its inventory.

The "gutter oil" scandal came to light after an investigation in 2013 revealed that thousands of food companies and restaurants in Taiwan were using oil products that had been mixed with lard meant for industrial use and oil recycled from kitchen waste.
