Vietnam scored twice in the first half through Nguyen Dac Huy and Phung Trong Luan in the 17th and 18th minute.

After the break, Bahrain dominated the ball and in the 29th minute, Al Sandi narrowed the gap to 2-1.

However Bahrain couldn’t find the net again, leaving Vietnam victorious.

Bahrain will next face Malaysia, while Vietnam meet host Chinese Taipei on Monday.

Earlier, Vietnam had suffered a last second 1-2 defeat to Malaysia in the first day, while Bahrain drew 2-2 with Chinese Taipei.

According to Vietnam’s coach Miguel Rodrigo, Vietnam deserved to win this game.

“In my eyes, this game was the final, but I think we deserved to win. I believe we played better against Malaysia in our first match, but we played effectively today. We defended well against the power play and resisted like warriors. I’m satisfied with my team’s performance because we got the result. In our next match, we are not worried about the home advantage for Chinese Taipei because my players have got some experience on that in the 2017 Asian Indoor Games in Ashgabat,” said Rodrigo on the website the-afc.com.
