Viet Nam played a defense game in the first half. Vu Thi Nhung scored two goals for Viet Nam in the 10th and 32nd minutes.

However, the hosts scored a goal to narrow the gap to 2-1 in the 30th minute.

Following the break, Viet Nam’s coach Mai Duc Chung unchanged the line-up, even as the team had many chances to score but failed.

“I don’t care about the match result. It is important that my players followed the training board’s tactics. However, they still made several errors,” Chung said.

Viet Nam will face the Guangdong team of China on August 5 and the Okayama Selection team of Japan two days later.

Viet Nam are in Japan until August 12 to prepare for the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. The national women’s football team has sets a target for winning gold medal at the regional sport event.

Five teams – from Thailand, Myanmar, Viet Nam, the Philippines and host Malaysia -- will compete in the women’s football event.

The best two teams will meet each other in the final round.

Viet Nam will face the Philippines on August 17, Myanmar on August 20, Thailand on August 22 and Malaysia on August 24.

Viet Nam has won the women’s football gold at three SEA Games -- in 2001, 2005 and then snatched another at the 2009 edition in Laos.
