Vietnam cruised to a 3-0 win over U23 Bahrain in a friendly match at Ho Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium on October 29.
Striker Nguyen Anh Duc jumped to score the first goal for Vietnam from a corner in the 11th minute, while Nguyen Van Quyet made the score 2-0 in the 79th minute and Thanh Trung completed the game with a goal in the fourth minute of injury time.
Bahrain had a chance to tie the score in the 17th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. However, Kumail Alaswad did not beat Nguyen Thanh Binh with a spot kick.
Playmaker Pham Thanh Luong and top striker Le Cong Vinh failed to net the ball in the last minutes of the first half.
The match was temporarily suspended at the 60th minute due to a power cut.
Vietnam will play the Republic of Korea (RoK) student squad on November 4.
The friendly winner and loser will receive cash prizes of US$5,000 and US$2,000, respectively, for each match.
The friendly tournament is a chance for Vietnam to warm up for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup, in which Vietnam will host Group A matches with Laos, the Philippines and Indonesia from November 22 to December 20.
Myanmar will compete against Thailand, Malaysia and host Singapore in Group B.
