Contestant from the host country won the crown while Peru’s representative was given the first runner-up title, Vnexpress Newswire reported on Friday.

“This is quite a huge surprise and I am so happy with this,” Huong said.

Born in Hanoi in 1979, Thu Huong graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

In 1995, she was crowned at the Miss Sport Vietnam pageant and afterwards hosted several VTV3 programs including “Phu nu the ki 21” (Women in the 21th century) and “Lam giau khong kho” (It’s not hard to be rich).

Huong then opened her own business and started an acting career. She now has a family with two children.

In Mrs. World 2011, Mrs. Kim Hong, who represented Vietnam and won The Most Beloved title at Mrs. World 2005, was chosen to chair the jury panel.

She’s also chairman of the Board of CIAT Company, which is in charge of sending contestants to the pageant.

First launched in 1985, Mrs. World is an international beauty pageant organized annually as a beauty contest for married women. The competition aims to urge women to voice their opinions about marriage and current events.

This year, the pageant gathered around 91 contestants from countries around the world.

Hoang Thi Yen, Vietnam’s representative at Mrs. World 2009 hosted by the country in Vung Tau, also finished third at the pageant.
