Tuan Chau Port to receive passenger ships

All tourist ships operating in Ha Long Bay will be moved to Tuan Chau international port as the Bai Chay tourist port will cease operation from January 1, 2016, according to the Transport Department of northern Quang Ninh province.

On December 27, local authority and tourism officials inspected the plans to shift tourist ships from Bai Chay port to Tuan Chau international passenger port.

The province's transport department said 160 registered companies and individuals were operating more than 400 tourist ships at Tuan Chau Port.

The transport department has to install a signpost system at the new port for tourists and local residents.

The department and local authorities are responsible for building new bus routes linking Quang Ninh province's centre with Tuan Chau port.

Tuan Chau Port became operational in October this year.

The Tuan Chau Group has invested more than 10,000 billion VND in the port as well as surrounding constructions since 2012. The 200ha port, which is 7km long and 10m to 17m deep, can handle 2,000 ships at a time.

The transport ministry has permitted Tuan Chau Port to receive foreign ships that are up to 100m long and have a waterline of 5.5m in the south and southeast wharfs of Tuan Chau Island since October 1, 2015.
