Vietnam’s aviation sector operated 164,577 flights in the first seven months of 2025, up from 154,276 in the same period last year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV). However, the industry faced notable challenges, with 1,097 flights canceled, accounting for 0.7% of total operations.
On-time performance also deteriorated. The average punctuality rate across domestic carriers dropped to 62.7%, 11 percentage points lower than the same period in 2024.
Bamboo Airways led the industry with 80.1% on-time departures, followed by Pacific Airlines (79.2%) and VASCO (79.1%). Vietnam Airlines achieved 70%, Vietravel Airlines 68.5%, while Vietjet Air recorded the lowest punctuality rate at just 51.6%.
In terms of cancellations, Bamboo Airways had the fewest (0.1%), followed by Vietjet Air (0.6%), Vietnam Airlines (0.8%), Pacific Airlines (0.9%), and Vietravel Airlines (1.2%). VASCO reported the highest cancellation rate at 1.4%.
Officials at Noi Bai International Airport forecast record-high passenger volumes during the upcoming national holidays marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2. Daily traffic could reach nearly 110,000 passengers and 638 flights, about 20% higher than the same period last year.
To prepare, Noi Bai has coordinated with airlines to optimize service operations. At Tan Son Nhat International Airport, carriers are shifting some operations to Terminal 3 to ease congestion at Terminal 1.
Heightened security measures
The Ministry of Public Security’s Immigration Department has ordered reinforced aviation security nationwide for the holiday period:
· August 26 - September 4: all airports will operate under Security Level 1.
· August 12 - 25 and September 5 - 7: enhanced patrols, baggage checks, and surveillance.
· Additional random screenings of passengers, luggage, and restricted-area personnel will be carried out.
