Five golfers representing Vietnam at the WAGC Final included Nguyen Hong Hai (Handicap A), Vu Duc Lan (Handicap B), Nguyen Duc Ninh (Handicap C), Tran Ngoc Trung (Handicap D) and Pham Trung Tuan (Handicap E).

Apart from the world championship, Lan and Tuan ranked third individually in their Handicap B and E, respectively.

WAGC 2017 took place on November 18-25 at four golf courses including Sungai Long Golf & Country Club, The Mines Resort & Golf Club, Templer Park Country Club and Kota Permai Lang Golf & CC.

This year’s event drew the participation of 300 golfers from 35 countries and territories, alternately competing on four different courses in four days. The final results are based on total points after each day of the tournament.

The world final is played over 72 holes (like professional PGA tournaments) with handicap adjustments between each round.

After the third day of the tournament, Vietnam ranked fifth behind Slovenia, South Africa, Singapore and Indonesia. On the final day, the team put in a great effort and achieved an amazing victory, according to golfer Lan.

“We are so happy and proud with the result,” he said. “We competed with a strategy prepared beforehand and a determined spirit.”

Dang Le Huy, a representative from TPBank, the organiser of WAGC in Vietnam and donor for Vietnam’s golf team at the world event, said that the bank’s hosting of WAGC in Vietnam for three consecutive years, from 2015 to 2017, has helped gradually improve national golf standards, as well as create a chance to bring Vietnamese golfers to the world. Vietnam ranked third and second at the WAGC 2015 and 2016, respectively.

The World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC), founded in 1995, inspires amateur golfers from around the world to take on the challenge of competing within their own skill levels by receiving the same status as the professionals and elite do with the proud feeling of representing their country in a world championship final.
